December 29. Bruce, Ed & son, Jack, Richie & friend, Bill & Ellen met with Joe at Ferguson Pontiac and compared some of the after market exhaust systems that people had installed on their Vettes. We then went to breakfast. Pictures.
December 16. Zaino demonstration at Al Serra Chevrolet. About 20 of us gathered to watch Frank show and demonstrate the Zaino product line. Adam got a scratch removed during the demo. Lots of us purchased a variety of Zaino from Frank. Pictures.
October 29. Drive and Dine to the Gooseberry Patch in Penrose. The SCCC group suggested that we gather at the Goose Berry Patch for good food and conversation. Eleven of our Corvettes met with three of theirs and had a great time. After that, some headed home. One went to the drag strip but got there to late to participate. Five cars did the Canon City Skyline dirve. Pictures.
October 14. Meet and Eat at Zio's Italian Kitchen. Jeff & Holly; Wes, Christy & Kayla; Jim & Debbie; Bruce & Nancy; Alex & Grace; Richie; and Bill & Ellen met at Zio's for dinner. We even picked up another Corvette couple, Shari and Jeff, at the restaurant. I wonder if it was our sparkling personalities or the fact that we had reservations and had room for them to join us or was it the fact that they faced at least an hour and a half wait. We may never know. After some great Italian food we drove over to the Saturday night Cruise-In but by the time we got there they had mostly cruised out. Pictures
October 1. PPSC Autocross. Bill, Richie and Bud met at Sheldon's for breakfast and then went over to the Rocky Mountain Greyhound Park to watch the autocross. Wes and Adam were entered. Christi, Mike and John dropped by to watch also. It was the biggest turnouts this year. I think they had 47 drivers. PPSCC raised $1,225.00 for Make A Wish-Colorado. Jessie Bough won the tires. Pictures
September 30. Cruise Night. Bill, Bud & Brinda, Steve, Hope and Mark were at the Cruise Night. Lots and lots of cars. Pictures.
September 30. Test and Tune at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Bud, Hope and Bill drove down to watch Wes & Christi drive but we forgot to bring Wes & Christi. Oh well, we watched for awhile and took the scenic route back. Pictures
September 29. Meet and Eat at Red Robin, Citadel. Steve & Zee, Jack & Linda, Jim & Debbie, Bill, Dick, Bud & Brinda met for diner. After diner most of us went to Cub Foods to see if the Cruise In happened on Friday night as well as Saturday. Answer: NO. We socialized a bit and considered a drive up Black Forest way to do a quality control check on the beer but decided they could check their own beer.
September 24. Drive and Dine to Rosie's Dinner in Monument. Bruce & Nancy and Bill drove up and met Jeff & Holly for breakfast and visiting. Rosie's is still experiencing 'we just opened' pains but should improve as they are open awhile. Roads were still a little wet from the snow and rain overnight but were clear and the sun was out by the time we left.
September 17. Pikes Peak Sports Car Club Fall Tour and Poker Run. Charlie & Jackie and Jim & Debbie joined PPSC for a drive to Penrose, Salida, Wilkerson Pass and back to Bambino's. They did not win the tires but over $400.00 was raised for Make-A-Wish, Colorado.
September 16. Down the Road Corvette Show at John Elway Auto Nation Chevrolet, I25 & Boulder Turnpike. Steve & Jack went up to the Corvette show. It was a pretty good showing. I'm guessing there were about 100 Vettes in the show. Good representation of all models from early 50s to the ZO6. Some custom. two Calloways, some complete restorations. By the way Elway had two new ZO6s on the floor for the low, low price of $67K (only $20K) over MSRP!!! Then Jack and Steve went over to Corvette Connection and checked out a 95 ZR-1 they're working on. NOS, gears, clutch, exhaust etc. As if the guy needed it ! He's only got 8500 miles on the clock and he's already on his third set of back tires! Nice drive up the old highway and back the same way. Hectic as hell in Denver of course. Anyway, nice way to spend the day.
September 15. Drive and Dine to the Armadillo. Only Roger and Tracy showed up. Maybe we can do better at the next one.
September 10. Bruce & Nancy, Wes and Bill went to the Old Country Buffet for breakfast and visiting. Good food at good prices. Join us next time.
September 8. Wes took his Vette to the Pueblo Motor Sports Park for the Friday night drag races. Wes's Story.
August 27. Gooseberry Patch, Penrose, Colorado. Another Drive and Dine. Lee & Steph, Jon, Steve & Zee, Dan & Cindy and Bill met at Al Serra and took the drive to Penrose. As always, great drive, great food, great prices. Jon turned over his car to Steph and joined Lee. Dumb Jon - should have turned over his car to Lee and joined Steph. But considering how Lee 'right pedals' his car it was probably better for the C5 to let Steph drive it. Jon took some pictures of the group driving from Lee's car but he missed the picture of him loosing his hat. Bill circled back to get the hat and returned it to Jon the same way he lost it. Steve and Zee continued on to Westcliff. for a quilt show/sale. The rest returned to Colorado Springs. Pictures.
August 25. O'Malley's. Thunderstorms must have put the damper on the Drive and Dine. Only Jeff, Holly & Raquel and Bill made it up to O'Malley's. O'Malley's was packed with people watching the football game and it was raining so our normal table was not a good choice. They went on down the street to the Depot Restaurant and ate there.
August 23. Phantom Canyon. Lee & Steph and Jon & Carol had a great dinner and avoided the "Survivor" party by staying downstairs. Had to argue with the manager but were able to get the party price on the beer.
August 19. CSCC Dealer Appreciation Show at Daniels Chevrolet. Roger & Tracy; Bill & Ellen; and Chris met at Al Serra. They were met at the show by Wes & Christina and daughter. Lots of nice Vettes and great people as always. We all went to Painios Restaurant had lunch and visited. Pictures
August 19. John and Scott went to the Super Chevy Show at Bandimere Speedway. They almost got a picture of the Z06 but it got away. One of the favorites had to the the '59 Grand Sport. Many interesting modifieds as well as the Carnelian (sp) paint on the C3. Owner had laid gold flakes on the ground all the way around the car that reflected back on the car. Corvettes in general made a great showing during the races. One, Summit Corvette, set a new track record at Bandimere. They had a great time. Maybe you can join them next year. Pictures.
August 12. Rocky Mountain National Park. Lee & Stephanie; Jon & Andrew; and Alex & Grace took a very long but beautiful drive up to and through the Rocky Mountain National Park. Everything was great until the return part of the trip on the Interstate. They are not Speed Limit signs anymore, they are wishful thinking signs. Pictures.
August 12. Autocross. CDR SCCA Pro Solo II at Coors Stadium. Wes attended his first autocross. His times kept improving and was closing in on the other C5 times. Wes and Adam are our autocrossers. Check with them if you are interested in autocross.
August 11. Drive and Dine at O'Malley's in Palmer Lake. Dan & Cindy; Bruce; and Bill caravaned up from Al Serra and joined Jeff. Jeff is our designated table saver as he lives the closest to O'Malley's. Bruce discovered that 22 oz of steak is a lot more than he expected. Bill forgot the camera for the first Drive and Dine. He brought the camera this time but forgot to use it. It is either age or those beers they serve at O'Malley's. Pictures next time (maybe).
August 6. Vettes
On The Rockies, in Frisco, CO by Looking Glass Corvette Association. Jeff
Dykstra entered this year. Read his story. Joe
& Eric; Jim & Debbie; Dave & Mason; Chris & Mike; Walt; Wes; Bob and
Bill. A total of eight cars and another C5 joined up with us on I-70. Lee came
early, real early, but did not go up. Lots of nice Vettes great drive. The 'older' (experienced)
drivers stayed the course and followed the leader. A couple of the young studs
played cat and mouse and blew by the caravan on several occasions. They eventually
fell into line with the rest of us after seeing a few troopers with radar on I70.
In Frisco, the weather was incredible with blue skies and temps in the 70s. We oohed
and awed for several hours at the hundreds of Vettes from the early fifties to the C5s and
some Z06s. There were also a few special Vettes on display as well. Some of
the restorations were out of this world.
Bill must have made everyone mad because he could not
find the rest of the group in the crowd. Too bad their was not a lost child
booth. Next time we will tie a balloon on him. Adam and family made it up
late, real late. Show was over but some Vettes were still there.
Pictures.
July 30. Picnic in Pueblo Mountain Park. SCCC needs a lesson in truth in advertising. The small Corvette Club picnic that we thought we were going to was in fact a picnic given by the Pantry Restaurant for its customers. The SCCC got permission to invite us. Ron & A.J.; Jim & Debbie; and Bill joined six SCCC Corvettes to caravan to the picnic. A couple of other SCCCers joined us. Their must have been close to a hundred people total. Talk about food and drink. They provided bunches and bunches of both and we won't even mention the before meal deserts, during meal deserts and after dinner deserts. Great drive, beautiful park and as always, the best company. Pictures.
July 21. Drive and Dine at O'Malley's in Palmer Lake. Jon and Carol, Lee, Bud and Brinda, Steve, Bill, and Jeff and Holly went had dinner at O'Malley's (also had a brew or two). Mark joined us at Al Serra but was unable to go with us. We attracted another two couples that should be joining us at later activities.
July 8. Local Area Drive. Wes and his Mom, Dan and his son, Adam and Bill met at Al Serra. Drove the North West side of Colorado Springs, Woodman, Centennial Blvd., and 30th Street to the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center. Then Garden of the Gods, Balance Rock and over to Cheyenne Canyon and on to Helen Hunt Falls. Back to the Sculptures , at The Broadmoor and finished with lunch at Chili's. Pictures.
June 25. Another Road trip to Elbert. Jon and his dad, Uncle Bud and Brinda, and Steve and Zee met at Al Serra. They were joined in Elbert at the South Forty Bar & Grill by Dwayne and D'Nee. After food, drink and some fun they headed north on the Ellicott Hwy and then Hwy 83 back to Steve's house. This was the slowest that Jon's car has ever been driven. Maybe because his dad was driving?
June 24. Pueblo Elks Club Poker Run. Bruce and Nancy, Bill and Ellen, and Ron and AJ drove to Pueblo and joined Todd and Richard from the SCCC in the Poker Run. The drive took us to Wetmore, Florence, Canon City, Texas Creek, Westcliffe, Colorado City and back to Pueblo. Great drive, great BBQ after the run and we almost swept the top three places. AJ got first with a flush, Todd got a second with two pair. Bill was beat out in a tie for third with a pair of ten's by the next high card. Thank you Pueblo Elks Club. Pictures.
June 9. Hot Pueblo Nights Car and Motorcycle Show & Cruise. Seven cars met at Al Serra and caravaned down to Pueblo. One joined us en route and one joined us in Pueblo. Between us and the SCCC, we had 20 Corvettes by my count. Great drive! The best caravan we have ever had. Maybe we are learning how to do it. Lots of nice cars on the streets for cruse night. Thank you SCCC for inviting us. Pictures
June 4. Canon City and Skyline Drive. Five cars met at Al Serra. We caravan to Penrose and met three other cars, two from the SCCC, for breakfast at the Gooseberry Patch Restaurant. Another scenic drive through Florence to Canon City and the Skyline Drive. We then went to Wetmore and the South side of the Pueblo Reservoir. Back up the Interstate to home. Beautiful day, beautiful drive. Pictures
May 28. The Road To Elbert. Joe Drew, Bruce Miller, Mark Warren, Dwayne Gosvenor and Bill Smith met at the Garden of the Gods Visitors Center. We took pictures there and up at the overlook on Mesa Road. Look for the pictures on their pages. Bruce and Wayne dropped out and we were joined by Mike Drummond, Jon Polk, Dave Schrack for the drive to Elbert for lunch at the South Forty. We continued on to Kiowa, Elizabeth, Franktown and back into town. Beautiful drive and the first time we did not have to stop for Lee to gas. Pictures
May 13. Picnic with the Denver Corvette Forumn group in Clement Park, Littleton, CO. Wes Turner led the caravan of John Wallingford, Lee Vaughn, Adam Rogers, Jeff Dykstra, and Bill Smith. Dave Tuttle and Chuck Brookshire joined us at the park. Pictures
May 7. Fun in the Sun Ralley. Bill Smith and Ron Newman entered and Phil Moore worked a check point. Great drive. Ron and AJ got forth place. Bill and Ellen finished with the least mileage. Easy if you make a couple of wrong turns and the make up for it by skipping part of the course. Drive included Cheyenne Canyon, Helen Hunt Falls, Garden of the Gods, and the USAFA. Beautiful Drive and great weather. Lunch was at Garfield's. Pictures
May 6. Not the greatest showing from our group at the Fun in the Sun Car Show. Bill Smith and John Wallingford drove down from Al Serra. Bruce Miller, Wes Turner, Mike Drummond and Dave Tuttle stopped by. Phil Moore was entered. Saw some great cars. Not sure how many Corvettes were entered in the show but my guess would be close to forty.
April 29. Al Serra, Complementary Breakfast and GM Performance Car Display. We had a very good turnout.
From the registrations, we had:
12 Corvettes from the Colorado Springs Corvette Social Club
1 Corvette from the Southern Colorado Corvette Club
1 Corvette from Colorado Springs Corvette Club
5 Corvettes with no club affiliation
1 Trans Am from AMA
1 '32 Hot Rod
2 Harley-Davidsons
Total 21 Cars, 2 motorcycles and a few others that did not register.
Breakfast was great. One sign of success was we did
not run out of food. We fed attendees, spectators, Al Serra employees and some of the
customers.
Door Prizes were awarded to the lucky.
The mystery tour (mystery because it was planned at the last minute) was a drive to the
Garden of the Gods overlook where we stopped for a few pictures. Then on through Old
Colorado City, Manitou and up the mountain to Woodland Park where we had lunch at Cruisers
Drive-In. We then went back down the mountain and drove through Garden of the Gods and
returned to Al Serra.
Our thanks, once again, to all the Al Serra employees who were so important to the success
of the Breakfast. A special thanks to Angie for all her help. Pictures.
Thanks to Bruce and Bill.
April 9, 2000. Sunday Road Trip. Eleven of us left Al Serra at 9:20. South through town, Hwy 115 to Penrose. Breakfast stop at the Goose Berry Patch. Great buffet. Nine of us continued on through Florence to Canon City and a short side trip on the Skyline Drive. Up Hwy 9 to Hartzel and back on Hwy 24 to Lake George with a lunch stop at Lake George Inn. Continued on Hwy 24 back to Colorado Springs. Great trip and a beautiful day. Pictures.
April 2, 2000. We met at Al Serra to decide on some of the activities for the coming year. Check the Upcoming Events page for the plans. It is never to late to bring up ideas. After the get-together we took a short drive through the Garden of the Gods, Manitou and back to Zio's Italian Kitchen were we ate. While in Manitou we picked up a C4 that joined us for awhile but left us as we turned north onto the interstate. Pictures.
March 19, 2000, we had a Social Buffet at Al Serra Chevrolet. Bruce Miller got his Corsas installed and we were all well fed. Al Serra Chevrolet provided filets and we had plenty of side dishes. Pictures. After the Corsa install and the buffet, we took our mandatory road trip. We drove to the infamous Rockyard Brewpub. Thanks to John, Angie and Sean, Al Serra employees who helped and took the pictures.
March 12, 2000, Rockyard Brewpub. Lee Vaughn organized a road trip to the Rockyard Brewpub in Castle Rock. He forgot to coordinate it with the weather. Light Snow caused most to cancel. I heard that some did show up at Castle Rock. Pictures. Bill Smith was on my way to join them when he got himself locked out of a still running Corvette. All extra keys were in Omaha with the wife. By the time the locksmith responded and opened the car, it was 1:30 and everyone had departed Al Serra. Bill now has a spare key at home and a door only key in his billfold. A day is never a total loss.
